MEZCAL JAZZ UNIT was founded in 1986 in Montpellier and is led by the bass player and composer, Emmanuel de Gouvello. The music reflects the singular and diverse identity of the group and its relevance to current European jazz streams. Their music is defined by the Mediterranean temperament of its musicians, the reminiscences of traditional melodies, an unabashed attraction for the Orient, a rock like energy and a sense of humor. The music goes from cool and reflective to joyous and explosive connecting to the audience with rare complicity.

1986年にモンペリエで結成。ベーシスト、兼作曲家のEmmanuel de Gouvelloはバンドリーダーで、音楽はグループの独特や多様な個性、そして現代ヨーロッパのジャズシーンにおける存在感を反映しています。彼らの音楽は、自分たちの地中海的な気質、伝統的なメロディーへの郷愁、東洋への率直な憧れ、ロックのようなエネルギー、そしてユーモアのセンスによって特徴づけられ、リスナーをクールや内省的な雰囲気から、喜びにあふれ爆発的な瞬間まで連れていきます。

Primarily self-taught, Kimiyo Ogawa first traveled to Buenos Aires on her own in 2001. Then in 2003 and again in 2017, she performed as a representative of Japan at the Cosquín Festival, Argentina's largest music festival, and in 2010 she did several performances in South America, including a concert organized by the Japanese Embassy in Bolivia, and later doing some recording in Buenos Aires in 2018.
She has been invited to perform at art festivals in several Asian countries and has collaborated with many artists in the areas of art, film, and theater. Since 2021, she has been traveling back and forth between Paris and southern France, touring and recording. In 2025, she toured Vietnam, and this year she is scheduled to perform with the Tokyo Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, as a continuing effort to show how music transcends genres and borders.

ほぼ独学で奏法を学び、2001年単身ブエノスアイレスへ渡る。2003年、2017年、アルゼンチン最大の音楽祭であるコスキンフェスティバルに日本代表として２度の出演、2010年在ボリビア日本大使館事業コンサートを含む南米縦断ツアー。2018年、ブエノスアイレス録音。アジア各国のアートフェスティバルへ招聘されるなど美術、映像、演劇との共演多数。2021年からパリ、南仏を行き来し、ツアーやレコーディングを重ねる。2025年、ベトナムツアー、2026年は東京都交響楽団との共演など、ジャンルや国境を越える演奏活動を行っている。
