Formed in 1999 in Glasgow, Scotland, Marshan established their presence in the
UK heavy rock scene through the release of their mini album Kings Thursday on
the Friday Street (Casket/Copro Records) in 2001. The record was produced by
Dave Chang (Orange Goblin/Earthtone 9) and the six tracks summarized the
Marshan sound, a mixture of unrelenting rock and roll with blues groove and a
touch of punk attitude.
The band followed up the mini album with the release of their first full
length record, Songs From Southern and Baseline (Funbag Records, 2004).
Once again produced by Dave Chang, the album highlighted a wider spectrum
of music and resulted in rave reviews throughout the UK and European music
scene.
Following extensive touring in support of the records, the band returned to the
studio in 2006, and released their current album, Brought to You By the
Goodtime Girls through the Italian label, Beard of Stars, in November 2006. The
album was produced by Duncan Cameron (BMX Bandits, Jerry Lee Lewis) and
represents a return to the raw rock of Marshan's first release.
The Marshan experience is best enjoyed through their acclaimed live show.
The band has carried out extensive UK tours playing with the likes of Orange
Goblin, Electric Eel Shock, Wolfmother, Franz Ferdinand and The Fratellis.
Marshan have also played a number of international festivals, including
the Stoner Hands of Doom Festival in Phoenix (USA, with Unida) and the
Stoned from the Underground Festival (Germany, with Spoiler). In 2006,
Marshan carried out a successful US headlining tour.
In 2007, the band headlined the Backfisch Festival in mainland Europe and
in the fall did their first tour in Japan.
